Thailand enjoys three main seasons – the hot, cool and the monsoons. The rains play a very important role in every aspect of the life here and so is the case when you are planning to go on a Similian Liveaboard.
The best time to visit the country is between October and May but the Similian Islands are closed to public from May 15 of every year upto November 1st. Visits and Liveaboard diving are illegal and banned during this season and hence a bad idea even if you are thinking to. This is because the weather can range from being rough to smooth with no consistency; hence divers are not encouraged to visit the diving sites during this period. The water is pretty chaotic at this time and hence authorities dissuade any divers from exploring these Islands during this time.
The summer months are the best for diving and snorkeling as the waters are crystal clear during this period. A good idea when going on a Similian Liveaboard is to carry along rain gear especially transportation to ferry you between the dive vessel and the carl. Most often, Liveaboard vessels are equipped with such gear but make sure that you ask ahead to prevent getting caught in such situations.
Monsoon seasons are not ideal for a Similan Liveaboard as the winds and rough waves can make travel to the Island difficult. Make sure that you do not fall for the marketing strategies of travel companies who claim to operate this season. The summer falls between mid February to beginning of May and is the best time to enjoy a Similian Liveaboard. During this season, you can have a great and safe trip to the Islands and explore the many dive sites going in for as many dives as you wish.
